It’s time to deck the halls! From cozy winter cottage vibes to colorful festive flair, there’s plenty of ways to ensure your holiday decor reflects your personal style. There are so many fun holiday decorating trends coming out this year that it can be hard to choose just one!

So when my friends at Wayfair asked to chat, I was thrilled to share my tips, advice and inspiration for The Holiday Edit. The holiday season is truly the best time of year for my family and so we love to make it festive and fun all season long.

The Wayfair Holiday Trend Q & A with Mariane of Lulu Quadri

Wayfair: As holiday trends change throughout the years, what are some core pieces that you consider décor staples?

Mariane: Pine stems and holiday plant décor are a must no matter what the holiday trends are.  The fresh greenery of pine stems and holiday plants add a nice, bright touch.

Wayfair: What is your favorite holiday decorating tradition?

Mariane:  My family loves to put up the Christmas tree decorations together.  We watch holiday movies and sip hot chocolate.  It couldn’t get any cozier!

Wayfair: Are there any holiday décor trends that are really standing out to you right now?

Mariane: The neutral holiday décor pieces as well as the distressed, vintage ornament look is something that I love this season and want to try.

Wayfair: What’s your advice to those looking to incorporate trendier items with classic holiday décor pieces?

Mariane: It’s important to add small pieces of the trendier items to the core pieces that are a must for you when decorating.  This way you always have something new incorporated into your holiday décor, but you still remain true to the pieces you love most.

Wayfair: Does your décor follow a theme? What do you gravitate towards when shopping for new pieces to add to your collection while maintaining the theme?

Mariane: Yes, my décor does follow a theme.  This year I am still keeping the neutral color holiday vibe going, but I am incorporating a bit of black throughout all the pieces I’m using which stands out quite nicely!  I have ceramic, black reindeer figurines and some black touches on my ornaments.

Wayfair: Do you decorate the exterior of your home in the same way each year, or do you like to mix it up?

Mariane:  I like mixing up the styles for the outdoor space, but I always keep the staple items including a Christmas mat, wreath, and Christmas trees.

Dream Home

My last blog post was published in June 2021.  Five months ago!  It's been quite a busy period for us to say the least.  We have been house hunting for the past 6 months and finally purchased our dream home!  What a ride it has been, and a ride filled with so many ups and downs.  I am thankful for 3 things.  The amazing individuals we met along the way (our real estate agent, house inspector, and the seller of the home), our two, very patient toddlers who were a part of the house hunting journey (they are troopers!), and my husband who has been my rock throughout this very stressful period.

You may ask, why was this exciting journey stressful?  Well, it's a sellers market out there for everything which means home prices are sky high and some aren't even in the best condition (appliances haven't been replaced, old stained carpets, mold, etc.).  However, there are people that are still buying these run-down homes regardless and so sellers don't have any incentive to negotiate terms.  Our seller however, was interested in finding the right family for the first home she decided to flip.  Her sole goal was for the family who purchases the home to enjoy living there.  She completely renovated the house, complete with new, modern appliances, new hardwood floors, new roofing, etc.  There were definitely some hiccups along the way, but we managed to close on our dream home.  We are so extremely grateful to God for guiding us along this journey.  Prayer is what got us through it.

I keep a journal where I documented some of my goals for 2021 and one of the biggest ones on there was to become a homeowner of our dream home in 2021.   I detailed all the things I wanted in that home very specifically and it all came true!  I hope you will continue to follow me along as we make this house our home.  My dream is to continue to make many happy memories here with my family.
